Super Over: tie decider in 20 20 cricket match

April 23rd, 2009 Posted in IPLT20

“Super Over” or the “Eliminator” is used in 20 20 cricket match format when the match ends in a tie and there must be a winner. So, instead of equally dividing the points between participating teams, winner team of the “Super Over” takes all the points.

Each team nominates a mini team of three batsman and one bowler and they play a mini match of one over. Who ever wins this match of one over is declared the winner of the match.

A “Super Over” in 20 20 cricket match is exactly like a normal full 20 over match except the fact that each mini team, gets to play only one over bowled by the designated bowler of the opposition team.

This is really a big win to KKR by Super Over but still i think that Bowl out is the better option than Super Over in this format of the game coz this is totally batsman game. Bowler are slashed out of the ground. So in bowl out bowler can show something.

I trust Super Over is far better than the bowl out. This will give equal opportunity to the batsmen, the bowler and the fielders instead of declaring the winner just depending on bowlers (since this is a match of bowlers, batsmen and fielders).
