Many incoming flights hovered over Delhi for as long as two hours in the hope that visibility would improve.”Those that did attempt landing during this period were unsuccessful and had to give up after several failed approaches. These flights were finally diverted to cities like Jaipur, Ahmadabad and Mumbai”. An official of one airline said:” while we had not boarded our flights, passengers had already cleared security. Once it was cleared that visibility was not going to improve, we chose to reschedule the flights and had to accommodate the passengers in hotels overnight”.
