BSNL starts 3G Mobile Services In India

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has started providing 3G additional video services in Eastern India. The services are being provided through Ericsson’s video gateway platform.

This will make BSNL the first operator in India to launch 3G video telephony services. The service was first launched in Kolkata in January, 2009.

The 3G video-telephony services provides high-speed internet services through BSNL’s 3G mobile and packet networks like round-the-clock video-on-demand, video- conferencing and mobile TV from the whole eastern region of the country.

BSNL has also offered great plans for its customers where the customers can make use of various services at affordable rates.

One of its services, Dial a TV, can be available to the costumers without having GPRS configuration in the 3G device. The user will have to dial a short code from the mobile phone for that channel and he will be able to view it.

Another service, the Hello TV service, enables the subscriber to view upto 32 live channels including news, music, sports and other genres. Also, the users will be able to stream the video content and will not have to download it.

The Video conferencing service is really helpful to the business people.

BSNL has also modified the tariff for its 3G services for both the pre-paid and post-paid customers. The call rates for 3G pre-paid general is 120 and 3G post-paid are 70 paise a minute. On the national roaming, outgoing local calls are charged at Rs 1.50 per minute and STD calls at Rs 1.50 a minute. Similarly, incoming calls will be charged at 1 rupee per minute.

BSNL has announced that the plans will be expanded to other parts of India as well in some time.
