When it comes to the flooring that you have in your bathroom, there’s a pretty good chance that it’s made out of tile. There are a lot of reasons why that works to your benefit. Tile flooring is cost-efficient. Tile flooring is low-maintenance. Tile flooring is also extremely durable too.

But in order to keep it looking great, it’s important that you clean it on a regular basis. If you’d like a few recommendations on how you can do that, please read on.

Pre-clean your tile. If you notice that there are layers of residue on some of your tiles or that your grout seems especially grimy, the first thing that you should do is pre-clean your tile. You can do this by purchasing an all-in-one spray cleaner that is made for tile flooring and spraying it on those especially dirty spots. Allow the cleaner to sit for about 10 minutes and then use a sponge or scrubbing brush in a circular motion to loosen up the dirt.

Use a solution to remove mold. Once that step is completed, the next thing that you should do is apply a solution that is specifically made to remove mold and mildew. This will help to get rid of any bacteria or fungi that can lead to the growth of mold and mildew. Although you can use a combination of one-part bleach and one-part water, if you would prefer something that has less fumes, consider using a one-part baking soda and one-part peroxide solution instead. With either solution, apply it to your flooring and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes.

Use another solution to clean grout. The next step that you need to take is to clean your grout. There are commercial cleaning products that you can pick up at your local grocery store or Walmart. However, if you want to use something with less chemicals in it, combine 1¼ cup of vinegar, 1½ cup of baking soda, 1/3 cup of ammonia, and seven cups of water. Pour all of it directly onto the flooring, giving special attention to the grout. Let it sit for about 20 more minutes and then scrub the grout with an old toothbrush.

Add a soap scum remover. Say that you purchased the tile for your bathroom floor at a place like Tiles direct and you asked a customer sales associate for another tip on how to clean tile. One thing that they might mention is that you should look to see if there is any soap scum, especially around your bathtub. If you happen to notice some, you can apply soap scum remover to it and then use a sponge to wipe it up.

Rinse (and dry) tile thoroughly. Once you have applied all of these steps, you’re finally ready to rinse your floor. You can do this with a bucket of clean water and a clean mop. After the floor has been saturated with water, it’s best to use a wet-dry vacuum to get up any excess water. Then you can buff the tiles with a clean towel and they’ll be looking as good as new.
