How much should you spend on flooring? It’s all determined by your budget and what type of flooring you want to install.  On the low end, $400 may be all you need.  On the high end, people are known to spend as much as $8000. On average, home flooring installation costs around $2900.

Tile Flooring

In general, tile is the most expensive surface to install. The material isn’t what drives the price though. You can look at tile flooring in any store and see pretty decent prices. What is most expensive about tile is the cost of labor and installation. It takes much longer to lay tile and work with than it does to install any other surface.

Labor

Say you want to add tile flooring to your bathroom. Again, the materials are not going to be that expensive. When it comes to bathrooms, there are a whole slew of other costs that come along with the tile, like tearing up the walls andresheeting rock (and/or addingdurarock for the showers). Often, a mudjob is needed for the floor and the shower. So, the costs for tile flooring really do add up.

Tile is clearly the best choice for the bathroom, but just be aware that there are a lot of costs there. For regular floors (such as kitchens and entryways), tile will usually cost more.

Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring is typically cheaper than other options. Real wood, stone, and tile are not only usually more expensive to buy but are almost always considerably more expensive to install. So if you want the look and feel of wood, stone, or tile but cannot afford it, laminate is the way to go. Not only is it cheaper, but laminate is also one of the most durable options, so feel confident choosing this flooring type.
