Hyundai Motors India Limited formed in 1996 is a subsidiary of the Korean auto giant Hyundai motors Limited. The HMIL, the second largest carmaker of India has many vehicles in offing, especially in the lower segments. The hatchback Grand i10 is one of the most popular Hyundai models. The grand i10, which was launched in 2013, replaces the Hyundai i10.
The Hyundai Grand i10 comes in 8 petrol, 1 LPG and 6 diesel variants, priced from Rupees 4.40 to 6.40 lakh. Two of the petrol variants have automatic transmission. The Grand i10 colors of phantom black, twilight blue, star dust, sleek silver, wine red, silky beige, pure white and golden orange. In September 2014, Hyundai has launched a special edition named SportZ Edition to celebrate the anniversary of the launch of the car. In 2014 the Grand i10 won the ICOTY award for the best car of the year.
The Grand i10 with a sporty look has a new wrap-around headlamps, new silvery roof rails, chrome door handles, smaller tail lamps and reflectors in the slots on the rear bumper. The top variants have rear spoilers, rear washer/wiper and diamond cut alloy wheels. The airy cabin of the Grand i10 in beige and black has a manual AC, a segmental first rear AC vents, a keyless start, fabric seats, power windows, electrically operated body coloured ORVMS with turn indicators and an integrated music system with AM/FM radio, CD/MP3 players with Bluetooth connectivity for telephony. The safety features for the top variants include 2 airbags, ABS, an engine immobiliser and central locking and child lock facilities.
The Grand i10 petrol variants are powered by a 1197 cc, 81 bhp and 114 NM torque KAPPA dual VTVT engine mated to a 5 gear manual gear box. The auto variants have 4 speed auto transmission. The mileage obtained is 16.95 kmpl for auto models and 18.9 kmpl for manual ones. The diesel Grand i10 has a 1120 cc, 70 bhp and 150 NM torque U2 engine mated to a 5 speed gear box. The diesel variants have fuel efficiencies of 24 kmpl.
The dimensions of the Grand i10 are 3765 mm length, 1660 mm width, 2425 mm wheel base and 165 mm ground clearance. The boot size is 256 litre, which can be increased by the rear bench folding seat. The suspensions are McPherson strut at the front and the torsion beam axle at the rear. The R14 alloy wheels have disc type brakes at the front and drum type at the rear.
The sporty appearance and a good mileage are the plus points of the Grand i10. The competition comes from hatchbacks like the Renault Pulse, Nissan Micra, Toyota Etios Liva and the Chevrolet Beat among others.
