But before you decide on getting yourself that little bundle of cuteness, you first have to think of some practical aspects. One of them is to make room in your home for a new family member. They might be small at first, but they grow up pretty fast and they are going to want a colorful kingdom to rule and mountains to conquer pretty soon.
Depending on how handy you are with your drills and hand tools you can either call a carpenter to do the work for you or you can work on it on your own, or with the help of your spouse. In either case, there are always smaller projects with which you can do test runs and also feel like you have contributed to making of the magical world your special little someone is going to find so much joy in.
When thinking about a child’s room, you always have to think about two things:
Functionality
It is always important that, no matter how you decide to organize the child’s room, you think of putting a few essential things in it first. Besides the regular desk, chair and lamp, you ought to put a few drawers in for their toys, some shelves and a closet, because let’s face it, kids are little people too- they have their stuff and they need their space. So before you start thinking about any sort of design, put a list together of all the things that you feel are necessary in the room. That will give you a clear idea of how much space you have to work with.
Creativity
We are all aware that different age groups come with different sets of interests, so don’t make the kid’s room monochromatic and all in wood. Play around with designs and colors and try to put some elements together so as to make extra space. If you’re really short on space you could try installing a bunk bed, and utilize the space underneath the stairs for closets, shelving or similar. Although this type of furniture is not quite easy to DIY, your kids will cherish the adventurous room you made for them. Nonetheless, if you aren’t up for such a big project, you can always use wooden pallets and redesign them into shoe racks, bookshelves or even nightstands. All you need as a few nails, a hammer and some paint and inspiration.
The possibilities are endless; all you have to do is go back to the inner child in you. Use your kid as an inspiration. What do they like? Hanging out in nature? Watching cartoons? Doing sports? Build a little tent, paint Superman’s symbol on the wall or set up a small corner for their sports activities. The most important thing is to make it personal for them.
