But, did you know that the golden ratio plays an important role in what we see as a nice interior?
Before we start, here’s a little reminder. The golden ratio is a mathematical sequence and appears as a proportion in growing shapes in nature. The golden ratio stands for the ideal proportion. It can be found in nature.
This ratio – 1:1,61 to be precise – has been found on the proportions of the human body, in the forming of musical sequences and architectural formulas that date back to the ancient Greek and Romans. Today it is generally accepted that the Greek architects used the golden ratio as the most beautiful proportion in architecture. And you can tell that by the beauty of ancient Greek temples and buildings.
Although it has different uses, most people believe that the use of this ratio makes things look more beautiful. Most interior designers are taught to use it in their projects, and so should you. It is the proper way after all.
Using the golden ratio to make your furniture layout balanced
Everybody who has ever brought a new couch in their home knows how difficult it is to make a good layout. First, you are sure that it will look great in one spot, but when you put it there something just isn’t right. Then, you move your couch around the room a few times, just to end where you started. This can be extremely time consuming and frustrating.
Next time, avoid all of this by taking the measurements of the room in advance. Keep the 2:3 ratio in mind when decorating your space. For starters, visually divide the space into two pieces – the bigger, the one that takes two thirds of the space, and the smaller one. House furniture defines the main role in the room, and think about secondary functions like sitting areas or storing areas.
The right choice of colors
By rule, colors are based on the 1:1,618 ratio. For those who are not sure, the 10-30-60 rule is a well designed space that should contain three colors. The first, dominant colors, should cover around 60% of the space and is usually used in areas like walls and floors. It should be followed by a secondary colors, that takes about 30% of the space and is usually used for furniture.
Finally, a bolder accent of colors should be the 10%, and it is used in the form of decor. But, just having the right ratio of colors is not enough. If you don’t choose those colors properly, you won’t gain nothing out of it. Depending on your personal choice, you can mix and match, but try to stay in the borders of what professionals say about picking colors and matching them.
Also, if you want to accent those colors more, choose proper lighting. If you have big windows, consider installing blinds or putting up curtains to block excess amounts of light.
